PRIVACY POLICY
RANDOM TV TIME, the Android app and the browser edition. Effective September 11, 2026.
The short version
RANDOM TV TIME collects nothing about you. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. The app has no server of its own. The only service it ever contacts is the Internet Archive at archive.org, from which it draws the list of what to play and the video itself.
What the app stores on your device
Your settings (the look, the mode, the sound level, the sleep timer and so on), the channels you choose to save, the channels you choose to hide, and a record of what has played on the set are kept on your own device only, in the app's private storage. Nothing in that storage is transmitted anywhere, and the app has no way to read it back from a distance. Uninstalling the app removes all of it. The reset control in Settings clears the settings and saved channels; the viewing record has its own erase control on its own screen.
What the Internet Archive sees
When the set is on, your device requests search results, item details and video files from archive.org, in the same way a web browser would when you visit that site. Those requests carry the ordinary information any web request carries, such as your network address, and they are governed by the Internet Archive's own terms and privacy policy at archive.org/about/terms.php. RANDOM TV TIME adds no identifier of its own to those requests and receives no information from the Archive about you.
Permissions
The Android app asks for network access, which it needs to reach archive.org, and to read the state of the network so it can tell you when there is no connection. It asks for nothing else: no location, no contacts, no camera, no microphone, no storage outside its own private folder.
The browser edition
The browser edition at randomtvtime.com keeps your settings and saved channels in your browser's local storage on your own device, sets no cookies, and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. The page is served by Netlify, whose servers see the ordinary information any web request carries; Netlify's own privacy policy is at netlify.com/privacy. The page itself contacts only archive.org.
Children
RANDOM TV TIME is made for adults. Its Google Play listing declares a target audience of 18 and over, and the app is not designed for children and is not directed at them. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, children included, because it collects no information at all. The Cartoons mode is a selection of the Internet Archive's animation collections with a filter on titles and tags; it is not a children's service, and what the Archive holds is not curated by the app.
Reporting and hiding content
Everything the set plays is public material held by the Internet Archive and uploaded by its users. The information panel of whatever is on has a report button, which opens your mail app with the item's details addressed to the maker, and a hide button, which keeps that item off your set for good. Every item also links to its own page on archive.org, which has the Archive's own reporting controls.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will appear at this address with a new effective date. Questions go to Elliott Lipinsky at elliottlipinsky@gmail.com.
